Vacuum Forming
Saffil Ltd pioneered the development of high performance
vacuum formed products in the late 1970's. It was found that by
wet processing Saffil fibres in combination with various binders,
boards and complicated shapes could be formed on metal gauze under
vacuum. These shapes were then dried and in some cases pre-fired
to form finished products with a range of properties. Altering the
composition of the Saffil in relation to other fibres or powder
fillers can modify these properties to meet a wide range of insulation
applications. It was also found that by utilising a slightly different
process and binder system boards and shapes with 1700 and 1800°C
temperature ratings could be formed. High purity negligible shot
content, very low thermal conductivity and low trace elements are
particularly attractive properties of Saffil fibres that lend themselves
to the vacuum forming industry. Saffil fibres can also be treated
after manufacture to optimise processes, which require the production
of very high specification vacuum formed products. Saffil Ltd in
conjunction with its partner companies throughout the world is able
to offer vacuum formed solutions to meet most high temperature insulation
problems.
